Charles Avery at Museum Voorlinden

Scottish artist Charles Avery (@studiocharlesavery) started working on ‘The Islanders’ in 2004. It is the name of an epic project, a collection of drawings, models and texts in which he describes the topology, cosmology and inhabitants of this fictional island. The project can be read as a meditation on some of the central themes of philosophy, of art-making, and on the colonization and ownership of the world of ideas.

Five Islanders are presented in this room of Museum Voorlinden, together with a work by geometric abstract artist Bob Bonies and a work by Jean Tinguely.
