Dan Flavin in the Kunsthalle Bremen

This work by American minimalist artist Dan Flavin is part of a series of some 40 pyramidal works he worked on in a period stretched over 25 years. The “Monument for V. Tatlin” – an hommage to Russian (or should I say Ukrainian) avant-garde artist Vladimir Tatlin – started with this first variation in 1964. The term Monument can be interpreted ironically here: the work, an arrangement of 7 standard commercially available fluorescent light fittings can’t exactly be called monumental. Or can it?
