The entrance to the David Hockney “Drawing from Life” exhibition in the National Portrait Gallery in London.
The poster-artwork used here is “Gregory”, a drawing Hockney made in 1978 of his longtime friend, one-time romantic partner, and curator Gregory Evans.
The work on the left is a collage on newspaper-print self-portrait Hockney made in 1954. It conveys a youthful confidence, and offers a foretaste of what was to come stylistically, in the artist’s vibrant use of colour and experimentation with different media.
