Dutch photographer Elspeth Diederix (@miraclegardening) created this cloud, and the photograph of it, on the island of La Palma in 2003. Sewing plastic bags from the local supermarket into a cloud and positioning it so that it appears to drift over the ocean.
A suffocating mass instead of the fresh ocean cloud you’d expect. Even more so now, than in 2003, the reality of the enormous amounts of disposable plastic we create make us look at this work in an even more pressing way.
The exhibition “Air” (“Lucht”), containing works by Ai Wei Wei (@aiww), Jan van Munster (@jan_van_munster), Marina Abramovic & Ulay, David Rickard (@david_rickard_) and Yoko Ono, amongst others, opened July 8 and is on view until the end of November.
