The Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris (@museedartmodernedeparis) has a beautiful retrospective on Hans Hartung: “La fabrique du geste” (on show until March 1st). With a career spanning the greater part of the 20th century, Hans Hartung, a decorated WWII hero, met, worked and exhibited with artists like Mondriaan, Calder, Miró and Rothko. The retrospective consists of some 300 works!
In the works shown here, Hartung worked with vinyl paint, also used in car-manufacturing, and used several objects to scratch the paint. Styli, rakes, metal combs and other sharp objects were used – always from bottom to top, in an upright motion – to scratch the paint.
