Nam June Paik: “One Candle” (also known as “Candle TV”) (2004). Throwback to a morning in March in the Stedelijk Museum (@stedelijkmuseum) in Amsterdam. Shot at the press preview of the exhibition “Nam June Paik – The Future is Now” that in the end never even opened to the public. (Yet!) The live candle in this work was blown out by museum staff when the museums in The Netherlands shut down, a video of which the Stedelijk put in their Insta stories.
Hopefully the museum will re-open soon so we can all go and see this work – and a whole lot of others! – by the pioneer of video-art. It will be worth the wait.
