One of my favorite artworks in The Netherlands: “Open Ended” (2007-2008) by Richard Serra (@richard.serra) in Museum Voorlinden (@museumvoorlinden) in Wassenaar.
This massive steel construction is a wonder to look at and a maze to get lost in. It harbors several contradictions: extremely heavy yet elegant, both concave and convex, both industrial and organic.
Richard Serra is a minimal and land artist. He creates enormous COR-TEN steel constructions like this one, which can be seen in the public space around the world. (Did you know there is one right in front of the Stedelijk Museum (@stedelijkmuseum) in Amsterdam for example?) His biggest (greatest?) work is in the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and consists of 8 different works with a total of some 50 steel parts. That one is definitely on my to-visit-list! Someday.
