In Paris I encountered the work of Robert and Sonia Delaunay on several occasions. Both the National Museum of Modern Art in the Centre Pompidou (@centrepompidou) and the Modern art museum of the city of Paris (@museedartmodernedeparis) had works on display by the couple, who co-founded Orphism. This movement was an offshoot of Cubism that focused on pure abstraction and bright colors, influenced by Fauvism. It is considered as key in the transition from Cubism to Abstract art.
On display here is the work Rhytme No. 1 (1938) by Robert Delaunay, flanked by a statue by Ossip Zadkine (Orphée (1930)) and Relief polychrome (1920) by Auguste Herbin. …and I hate the fact that the left bench isn’t properly aligned to the right one…
