Tobias Schalken in Museum MORE

One of two eerily realistic sculptures by Tobias Schalken in Museum MORE (@museummore) in Gorssel, The Netherlands.

This particular work is called “His unexpected return” and was created in 2002. A girl rests her head on a desk, seemingly asleep. One of her arms seems way too big, too hairy, too masculin for her body. Which makes the realism in the execution of the sculpture – unsettling enough on its own – even more eerie.

The light in this room was so good; who needs a professionally lit photo studio?
