Air
Five candy machines are lined up on a neat line. From further away they look like they’re empty, but that’s not true: there are translucent capsules in there, which – at first glance – also seem empty. But even that’s not true: there is something for sale here, that usually can’t be sold. Air.
Yoko Ono with this work focusses on the indispensability of clean air and shows her worries over the damage being done to our living environment…
…ironically she does so by selling (yes the machines actually work with € 0,50 coins) empty plastic shells! The proceedings of the work benefit the museum, but I think it would be wiser to just make a donation to the museum, and enjoy the aesthetics and message of the work.
The exhibition “Air” (“Lucht”), containing works by Ai Wei Wei (@aiww), Jan van Munster (@jan_van_munster), Marina Abramovic & Ulay, David Rickard (@david_rickard_), Elpeth Diederix (@miraclegardening) amongst others opened this week and is on view until the end of November.
